Welcome to the Autumn addition of the Metrapanel Newspanel!

With 2017 now in full swing, it's hard to believe Easter is almost here!

Earlier this year the Metrapanel team took a moment to reflect on 2016, which resulted in some impressive statistics. Metrapanel saw a growth of 17.5% in sales, an interesting change identified was that the sale of precut panel decreased by 33 sheets per month compared with 2015, whereas painted sheets increased by 118 sheets per month. This is a result of the increase in ceiling sales during 2016. We hope to see more building companies embracing this safe ceiling system through 2017, and realise the significant benefits from a project perspective, as well as a safety solution! With the RVA Waikato/Bay of Plenty forum hosted by Metrapanel in March, it is timely to look at the connection between Metrapanel and the retirement sector. The Metrapanel System has already been utilised for eight retirement projects throughout New Zealand, these include four hospitals. In 2016, the retirement industry was responsible for 19% of sales for Metrapanel. New Zealand is faced with two big issues in the coming years, one is that the population is constantly increasing and the second is that the population is ageing. PrefabNZ stated that “twice as many rental homes will be headed by an older person than in 2015” furthermore, that people aged “65+ will make up 25% of New Zealanders”. Therefore, retirement villages need to be constructed quickly and with a product like Metrapanel that can stand the test of time, to ensure our elderly are cared for.

But don’t just take our word for it, listen to Claire Neshat, Project Manager of Althorp Village in Tauranga and Les Briggs, Project Manager of Lochlea Lifestyle Resort in Ashburton, talk about their experiences with the Metrapanel System.

NZGBC
The New Zealand Green Building Council (NZGBC) is a not-for-profit, industry organisation. Their vision is that New Zealanders live, work and play in healthy, efficient and productive buildings in a sustainable built environment.

This is achieved through:

  • Promoting the benefits of sustainable buildings by creating a common language and demonstrating the value.
  • Assisting the property and construction sector to acquire the skills and knowledge to be able to deliver a sustainable built environment.
  • Motivating and rewarding the sustainable development and operation of buildings across New Zealand.

Recently NZGBC partnered with Holmes Consulting to form a Waikato chapter to enable more events and opportunities to connect with like-minded NZGBC members and professionals in the region.  Their first event was held on the 23rd March at the Kakariki House in Hamilton, the first certified Green Star Building in the Waikato. The Metrapanel System was used to complete the office fitout for this 2-storey building which required 350 sheets of panel. This event was the first in a series of activities for 2017 for the NZGBC Waikato forum... read more

In the industry

The Metrapanel System is already here and has been for over 27 years now! Having provided and installed panel for over 9,000 homes nationwide, with a strong history boasting only positive experiences and a current network of 17 Licensed Installers and 150+ Certified Builders, we have the experience and factory capacity and capability to take on extended growth throughout New Zealand.

RVA Waikato/Bay of Plenty Forum Hosted by Metrapanel!
On Thursday 9th March we shut down, cleared out the factory, and opened our doors for the RVA Waikato/Bay of Plenty Forum. The regional meeting attracted 40 guests including installers, investors, retirement developers, PrefabNZ, Lifemark and RVA members.

The event included an RVA update from Ed Thomas and a presentation from Melissa, Andrew and our guest speakers – Terry Coombs from HPA, Duncan Leadley from ICS and Grant Laing from Laing Properties. Following the presentations, guests then headed down to PLB/BuiltSmart to view their Show Home and several transportables under construction.  From there, guests were shown PLB/BuiltSmart’s Eastside Heights subdivision. This gave attendees an opportunity to understand the Metrapanel process from the LaminexNZ truck arriving, to cutting and painting of the panel, and then the completion of the house.

Thank you again to all those who attended, to RVA for providing Metrapanel with this opportunity, and to PrefabNZ and Lifemark for promoting the event through their newsletters.

PrefabNZ CoLab 2017
On behalf of Metrapanel's sponsorship, Jarrod Beaman from Panelwood Homes attended the annual PrefabNZ CoLab event last month. Events like this provide great opportunities to network with like-minded people about innovative ideas to address the building issues we currently have in New Zealand, in particular the Auckland Region.

After attending the conference, Jarrod commented that there was a general agreement that we need to radically transform how we produce houses to meet the demand, as what we are currently doing is not working.

By using Metrapanel, Panelwood Homes has a significant advantage in the Auckland market. However, the main issue we are currently facing, especially in Auckland, is that people are weary and reluctant to take the step to realise the advantages of building with Metrapanel compared with traditional building methods. As the uptake of Metrapanel grows, we anticipate that it will not be long until more people discover the benefits of the proven system.

INEX Interior and Exterior Design Expo
Duncan Leadley from Innovative Ceiling Systems facilitated two workshops at the INEX Expo on the 31st March, highlighting the numerous benefits of using METRAceilings. This system eliminates falling-from-heights issues as the 25mm panel provides a solid and safe platform for builders to work on. If you haven't already, head to ICS's website to see the full advantages of using METRAceilings.
