AWARDS
Our previous show home, the 'Smart House' won a Canterbury architectural award in the housing category. They said:
“Simple, well considered planning, high ceilings, and floor-to-ceiling glazing define a commendable initiative injecting contemporary design sensibilities into the prefabricated housing market. The treatment of the external façade transcends the economies of construction that typify the genre, while providing shelter and material variation. An affordable, fully transportable holiday home, the Smart House base module also embraces adaptability with additional pods facilitating diversity of program and an arrangement of forms to suit the locale and owners.”

Why Metrapanel?
Laing’s use of Metrapanel has been for a number of reasons and it has proven to be a solid business decision.
Minimal/no plaster joints reducing internal cracking during transportation / seismic activity / settlement. With the events that have been taking place in Canterbury over the past couple of years it has become important to many of our clients that they have hard wearing, long lasting homes.
Speed of construction is so important in our current market and Metrapanel helps us to cut down the time it takes to produce a home. This is very important to us as it enables us to build more in a shorter time.
Enables us to easily exceed the building code.
Helps to provide additional floor space. As Metrapanel takes up less room than the standard gib/timber frame construction.
Technical knowledge/expertise provided by Metrapanel staff. This is important to us as we like to work with people who like us, genuinely care about what they do.
Flexibility to incorporate alternative conventional building systems with Metrapanel.
Product support from Laminex/Resene.
History
Passion. Innovation. Teamwork. Relationships and Integrity
We are proudly part of Laing Properties Ltd, a family owned Christchurch Building Relocation business which has been involved with the relocation of in excess of 2300 buildings over the past 25 years. Have confidence in knowing that you are working with a dedicated team of professionals that have in excess of 50 years of combined building relocation experience. Laing Homes has been operating since 2001, with over 285 new transportable homes successfully built. Laing Homes has developed a strong reputation based on building quality, transportable homes for many satisfied customers.
Laing Properties has enjoyed a successful relationship with Metrapanel since early 2001. The decision to incorporate the Metrapanel construction system within our transportable homes is still as relevant to day as it was 12 years ago. Andrew and Melissa Savage are professional and passionate people and it has been a rewarding experience to be involved with a company that has such high standards.
We are happy to work with any property owners who cash settle with their insurer and have the ability to manage their own project, or insurance company-appointed project managers covering quake rebuilds. Alternatively, Laing Properties staff have the skills to handle the entire project on behalf of the section or home owner.
LOCAL SPONSORSHIPS:
Laing Properties is proud of its contribution to the community. Each
year we budget resources to contribute to the community. We relocated
and set up a building for the new St Albans Community Centre on Colombo
street and this is just one of this type of project that we are working
on. We believe in helping within the Christchurch community where we
can.
Laing’s is also currently supporting Youth South West Christchurch.
We believe that our youth are our future and require the support and
encouragement of businesses in their local communities to excel and
reach their potential. It is for this reason that Laing’s has chosen to
support Youth South West Christchurch; in particular we are supporting
youth training, which includes liaising with our local high school and
helping suitable students with pre-apprenticeship training leading onto
apprenticeship training. Our aim is to help students to succeed where
possible in the hope that one day they will be in the position to lend
their support to a younger generation.
Testimonials
Scott and Varinia Mitchell , Mamaku Specific Design Twizel
'We were impressed by Laing's knowledge, their friendly and always helpful staff, they were very accommodating and quite clearly are people who care about what they do. We chose Laing’s for their established relocation reputation, and for the service the staff gave us. We are happy to say that we felt good throughout the whole building process. The established processes they have in place work to their credit, and the friendships we have gained have been invaluable'.
Toni Morrison and Nathan Hole, Geraldine, 145m² Specific Design, 3 Bedroom + Study
"The main reason we chose Laing’s over other companies was the prompt and detailed response Grant Laing gave to our initial enquiry and because the specification level (insulation, building standards) was better and there was flexibility to allow us to use our design. We found working with Laing’s was low stress, convenient and a time saver. We are very happy with the finished project, especially how warm our house is. Laing’s were a great company to deal with and we would happily build again and recommend them."
John Scoble , NZ Fire Service – Christchurch
"We found Laing’s easy to work with, they were very knowledgeable and very co-operative to deal with’. ‘We chose Laing’s because they are the leader in portable buildings and were able to produce the lecture rooms we required’. ‘Laing’s provided us with an excellent quality product. The delivery timing was close to the initial estimated delivery date and they organised their sub contractors well.’"
David Taylor , Principal – Fernside Primary School
"We were impressed with Laing’s service. Our new classroom was largely completed without disruption to the school and delivered on time as per the revised delivery schedule. Laing’s staff were responsive to changing the plans to suit our requirements.’ ‘We chose Laing’s due to the quality of previous classrooms we had seen. Their speed of building construction and their price competitiveness. Laing’s had been referred to us by other schools.’ ‘Laing’s provided a quality classroom space for our senior school students and their off site building option created a minimum of disruption to school life.’ "
Arthur Sutherland , Boyle River Outdoor Education Centre
We are grateful for the excellent service Laing's team gave us during our project, they did a fantastic job on the house, we have received nothing but positive feedback from the staff living in the house. We chose Laing's for their overall time and money savings, the difference in getting the house built on site would have far out weighed what the final spend came to. Laing's were a great company to deal with, their communication through out the build and great ideas during the planning process were much appreciated and valued. We would happily build again with them and recommend them to anyone we knew who was looking at doing something similar. It has been a pleasure to deal with you, Andrew and the other members of the team.
Laing Properties Transportable
“Our Company has been operating a building relocation division in Canterbury for the past 23 years and during this time we have relocated in excess of 3000 buildings.
We are members of both the NZ Heavy Haulage Ass’n and the Master Builders Association. In early 2000 the Director’s decided to form a separate transportable housing division and a number of construction systems and techniques were evaluated to form the basis of a new transportable housing range. The final decision, after much consideration was to utilise the Metrapanel system.
We can confidently say we have completed over 300 new transportable homes using this innovative construction method and would have no hesitation in recommending this form of construction. Laing’s has been involved in the construction of transportable classrooms for the Ministry of Education, training rooms for the NZ Fire Service, commercial transportable offices and private dwellings for various clients and these buildings have performed remarkably well during the Christchurch earthquakes. Of significant importance we have a classroom situated at Mt Pleasant School (within close proximity of the February 22nd epicentre) which partly fell off a raised timber pile foundation with minimal damage being sustained.
We firmly believe the Metrapanel system is the most innovative construction method available in New Zealand for transportable homes, based on the ease with which the houses can be completed and transported (including painting) without joint movement, cracking or any structural damage.”
